Your Complete List of Recommended Resources

What if you could find an extensive list of resources dedicated solely to your success? Well, you can at Afterburner Success Partners, of course! Read this special post to find out how this list is available with a few simple mouse clicks!

What are resources?

The first post for Afterburner Success Partners was posted on July 31 of this year.  Admittedly, I was getting my feet wet with my online presence, and as I’ve looked back over the past few months, I’m learning and getting better every week. A special thanks to my good friends and family who pointed out, how shall we say, my opportunities for improvement. These well-intended critiques are quite welcome and much appreciated! Every day, I’m learning more and doing more, so Afterburner Success Partners can be a more valuable resource for you.

At the end of every one of my posts, there is a recommended resource section. In my vocabulary, a resource is an outside reference that will support, enhance, and even entertain you as you are on your journey to learn as much as possible about setting yourself on a path to obtaining everything you want in life. Here, I provide other material for you to read, watch, or listen to that will support you in your quest to learn, improve, and ultimately achieve your dreams and live your best life. I can hear you now. “Dave,” you say, “Where do you come up with this list of resources anyway?” I’m glad you asked that question because I’d like to tell you.

Achieving your dreams likely means being a lifelong learner

As I’ve mentioned, I’m a lifelong learner, desiring to learn new things daily. As such, I’m a voracious reader, reading everything I can get my hands on. As you know from reading past posts, I started my journey to lifelong learning when I was 20 years old. That means, for almost 46 years now, I’ve been reading, learning, and trying to improve myself for a very long time. Just being engaged in self-improvement for that long means you will run across a lot of material. Because I typically buy my books, movies, magazines, and newspapers, I have quite an extensive collection of material, and this material has taught me a lot over the years. I’ve now parsed out the best from that collection of hundreds, perhaps over a thousand, books, magazines, newspapers, movies, and other resource material that is the most relevant for you as you begin and continue your lifelong learning journey.

So, tell me more about this material

I’ve mentioned that my primary goal for developing Afterburner Success Partners, the associated course, blog posts, and other support material is to help others where possible. At this stage in my life, I want to be direct with you for just a minute as I make two important points. May I?

The first is that success is many things to many people. Toward the end of the course, we get into concisely defining success.  For now, let me say that I realize that learning, growing, setting goals, and developing lifetime plans are not for everyone. I already know that only a tiny percentage of the population, less than 3%, is interested in this concept. If I were to write a book about growing roses, it would be the same thing; only those who grow roses would be interested. Many people choose to live a relatively simple life, and that simple life in and of itself is a success for them. I’m happy for those folks; there is nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, if you have higher aspirations in life, you will have to do things differently than those who desire a simple life.  For example, learning and growing will likely be an integral part of your life, and you will have to stay on top of new developments and learn new things as you advance in your career and life.  And this is the direct part of the two points I want to make. Being a lifelong learner likely means you will be a lifelong reader. Perhaps you’ve heard the little ditty that goes like this: Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers. I believe this to be true because successful leaders must stay on top of their game, always be learning new things, and stay abreast of new developments. As such, most of the resources on the recommended resources are materials for you to read. You read to learn from others, and that's the benefit of books, magazines, and newspapers, whether in physical or digital form.

One of the newer developments in recent years is digital books that you can take anywhere and read on a device such as a tablet. There are audiobooks, and I observe many of the walkers I encounter on my daily walks listening to books and other materials such as this. While some listen to music, I hear many listening to different materials, as not everyone uses headsets or earbuds. More are listening to material other than music. The point is that reading now comes in more forms than printed material. You may even know people who listen to audiobooks while they drive to and from work.

So where is this list, anyway?

Here’s the short answer: If you go to the Afterburner Success Partners website at absuccesspartners.com, you will see a list of tabs across the top. Look to the far right, where the More tab is. Click that, and the drop-down menu will reveal a Books & Resources tab. Click it, and all of the recommended resources will be displayed.

Heads up! I have two books that I have written and are in the final stages of development, and both of these books and any future books I write will be available under the More tab. Oh, you want to know what those books are about?  Well, OK then. The first book is a cookbook that includes over 300 favorite family-style recipes I have developed over the last 30 years. Some recipes are from my immediate family, and a few are from special friends. You may not have known that I like to cook! The second book is essentially the course in book form, and soon, you will have another option available to take the course, but this time, you can do it by reading a book!

I want to tell you where that list of over 100 carefully selected books, magazines, newspapers, and web links came from. While I consider any reading a form of enjoyment besides learning, not all of the books, magazines, and online content I read apply to goal setting. I’ve selected probably only a tenth of all the books I’ve read for you and the resource lists. So, you can be assured that if you read any of the recommended resources, you will be reading something supportive of what we are trying to do at Afterburner Success Partners. It may be how we think, invest, and lead others, but ultimately, all this material is a piece of the puzzle that defines who and what we are
